Project Overview
I was tasked with creating a recipe book that paired two elements together. Considering my cooking skills, limited time, and budget, I chose a simple but visually engaging concept centred on vegetables and eggs. The book is aimed at foodies and health-conscious readers who would appreciate its adventurous tone and nutritious recipes, which helped guide the overall design direction.
Development
I designed the layout to be eye-catching and easy to navigate, using clear typography and well-defined sections to improve readability. The colour palette was inspired by the vibrancy and freshness of vegetables. Since I was required to produce my own photography, I used Photoshop to isolate my recipes on a plain background, creating fun, repetitive visuals that matched the simple, adventurous theme. To complete the book’s personality, I added pixel-style illustrations that complemented the bold typography and colour palette.
Key Takeaways
This project was a fun and valuable learning experience, as it was my first time designing a recipe book. It helped me better understand how concept, layout, colour, and illustration work together to create a cohesive design. I also learned how to adapt creatively to limitations such as time, budget, and skill level, while still producing a visually engaging result. Overall, the project strengthened my confidence in combining typography, imagery, and illustration to support a clear theme and target audience.
